01 - In a small saucepan, combine whole milk, heavy cream if using, and granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently, until hot but not boiling, about 4 to 5 minutes.
02 - Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in peppermint and vanilla extracts.
03 - Pour the hot drink evenly into two mugs.
04 - Optionally, garnish with whipped cream and crushed peppermint candies or chocolate shavings. Serve immediately.
